Gaming Influence: Thoughts - Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Direct 8.4.2026
Hello everyone,
Welcome to Gaming Influence, a reboot of the same name I created in WrestleCorp. However, I will be giving my thoughts not only on certain video games and video game series but also on video game movies, video game anime, video game digital presentations, etc.
For this edition of Gaming Influence, I'll share my thoughts on the Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Direct on August 4, 2026.
Anyway, let's get started!
For those unfamiliar with the Fire Emblem series, it's a Japanese fantasy tactical role-playing game series developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is the next mainline game of the popular tactical role-playing game series.
With this game coming out next month, did Nintendo do enough to satisfy the Fire Emblem fans as well as players who have never played the series before? Well, let's find out and talk about what they've shown.
They first show a new trailer for the game, set in a deserted land where monsters roam and attack until a hero comes in to take them down, before it goes to the next part of the presentation. Very interesting start to the presentation, especially with that intro, as it definitely seems to be a big part of the game. Curious to see how that'll turn out once we get to play it.
They then showed where the game will take place: in Dagda in the year 1449, in the capital city of Dagsion. This is also the location where the Heroic Games take place, as Solel, a Divine Sovereign, will be running the tournament during that time, where the winner of the tournament will be granted a wish. I love how they give the setting where the game takes place and a general idea of what the story is about before going into more depth. Love everything that I see with this world so far, and I can't wait to experience it myself.
We then got introduced to the characters of the game. This game will feature four different heroes, and depending on which hero you pick, the story will change. There's a hero named Cai who is a young boy, and on his 15th birthday, his father was arrested on a false accusation, and he plans to join the Heroic Games to rescue his father from prison. There's a hero named Dietrich, who is a man who seeks a challenge, but was attacked by a sea monster during his travels as he got stranded on Dagda, where he learned about the Heroic Games and joined in to find a challenge. There's a hero named Theodora, who lives in the Kingdom of Saramis, as she joins the Heroic Games to restore honor and culture to her people about Death and Night. There's a hero named Leda, who is a young woman who is talented at dancing, but at a young age, her father was killed, and when she grew older, she learned that the murderer of her father was still alive, as she plans to join the Heroic Games to search for the murderer of her father. The heroes in the game will also interact with each other in the Heroic Games as well. Man, a lot of these stories got me intrigued, as it's kind of hard to decide which hero to choose first for this. So far, I'm leaning towards Leda, but loving the characters and their stories so far, as I can't wait to experience them once I play it.
When competing in the Heroic Games, there'll be matches where the player gets to choose who will be on their team to compete as well as their placement on the map. Units can be moved within the blue tiles, while where the unit can attack is within the red tiles. There are also conditions to win the game, whether it's to defeat the leader or another objective. So the Heroic Games will contain your traditional Fire Emblem gameplay, which is great to see and a nice explanation for those who are new to the Fire Emblem series. Traditional Fire Emblem gameplay is always great, and I can't wait to play it.
There are many weapons that units can use in the game. Some swords are good in close combat, gauntlets are good for evading, spears are good against cavalry units, axes have low accuracy but high attack power; bows can be used at long ranges and deal massive damage to flying units, and magic can be used on heavy units and to heal. Some swords can use lightning, and some gauntlets can shoot like firearms. As usual, they have a nice variety of weapons, which is a classic in the Fire Emblem games, but the fact that there's a weapon that is a gun is freaking awesome, and I love it. I can't wait to play this when it comes out.
They then discuss positioning; depending on how you position your unit, it will affect the battle. For example, depending on where the unit attacks another unit, they can attack once, multiple times, or can counterattack. When dealing with close-range units, it's better to use far-range units to attack them, and when dealing with far-range units, it's better to use close-range units to attack them. In addition, placing units on terrain can help their avoid rate, and placing units next to each other can increase the other units' stats. Once again, I love how they're explaining the game for those who are new to the series. This is great overall for newcomers.
They then introduced the return of Combat Arts, which are abilities that units can use where it'll lessen the durability of the weapon being used but will increase attack power as a result. For example, Deadeye is a Combat Art that an archer can use to use a long-range attack. Nice to see Combat Arts return, which has been a staple for the Fire Emblem games for a long time now. Curious to see if they added new ones, but we'll have to play the game to find out.
We then get to see Blaze Arts, which are special abilities that the Heroes can only use in battle. For Cai, he has a Blaze Art that can cause a big explosion in a far-range attack, attacking multiple units at once. For Dietrich, he has a Blaze Art that can teleport from one area of a map to another by going through terrain. For Theodora, she has a Blaze Art that can throw a weapon to a unit in a far-range attack. For Leda, she has Blaze Arts that can buff units, summon monsters, etc. Despite Blaze Arts being powerful, it comes at a cost for the hero losing a bit of their HP. In addition, if a player's unit is defeated in battle, players can rewind time to prevent their defeat from happening. Love the new combat feature that they add here with Blaze Arts, as each hero has a unique one to them, which is awesome to see. Not only that, nice to see the rewind feature return as it's definitely going to be useful for reviving units that got killed during battle. Loving everything I've seen so far with the combat and gameplay, and I expect to love it once I play it.
They then showcased the classes that will be in the game, as there are different classes that units can be when they reach a certain level. There are classes such as Shido, Bardinger, and Bishop, where depending on which class you choose for the unit, it'll change their stats, weapons they can use, and their range of movement. There are three different class ranges: Beginner, Specialty, and Advanced. Beginner classes include Gladiator, Diviner, Ornius Rider, etc. Specialty classes include Armored Knight, Wing Soldier, Charioteer, etc. Advanced classes include Cataphract, Guardian, Elephant Rider, Dragoon, etc. Man, love the amount of classes that they have for this game, as they even have new ones as well with unique skills and so forth. I love it. Can't wait to try them out once I play the game.
When preparing for battle, players have two options to do before a major story battle occurs. Players can either explore Dagsion or go to the World Map. When doing either of these options, it will use up free time. Well, nice to see that there'll be things to do when not doing a major story battle to cool these things down. Always appreciate that, and I'll talk about what players can do during their free time.
When preparing for battle in Dagsion, players can do multiple things within the city. For Arena, players can use it for training to level up and gain new skills for their units. In addition, players can spectate to also learn new skills that help their units grow stronger. For Shopping Arcade, players can go there to purchase and upgrade their weapons. For Temple Row, players can go there to get blessings, where those blessings can give their units buffs in battle. For Certificate Exams, players can have units take certificate exams to promote to other classes. For Quests, players can roam around the city to talk to NPCs to get quests where completing them before the deadline will get the players rewards. For Recruit, players can go around the city to talk to potential new allies to fight in battle, and if they fulfill the requirements, they'll join your team. For Inns, players can use this not only to skip the day, but also to train units to level up and have support conversations among the units themselves. For Pal Raven's Perch, players can go here to swap to a different hero for their story, as players can play each hero for their story in parallel. Oh my god, there's so much to do in Dagison, which is insane, but what I love the most is the fact that we can play all four heroes to experience their story in one playthrough, which I had an issue with in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, so this is a major plus. Love this a lot, and I can't wait to play it.
When preparing for battle in the World Map, players can do multiple things within the world map. When doing tasks within the world map, time will skip. Players can go visit towns to order items and gather information. There are also skirmishes that players can go into to gain more experience for their units. There are also dungeons where players can explore to gather treasure, and when encountering monsters in the dungeons, it'll lead to a turn-based battle system where combos of units can occur. When roaming the world map with a hero, the hero will have hero-specific talents that they can use on the world map. For example, Dietrich can use his talents to reveal enemy locations that are hidden, while Theodora can use her talents to recruit soldiers to gather materials and fight for her. Oh my god, they're actually using the dungeons from Fire Emblem Gaiden/Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia in this game, which is freaking awesome! Love the fact that they're also turn-based battles when facing monsters in the dungeons, which is quite cool. Love that each hero has a specific ability to use on the world map, which will also make things interesting. I love it.
They then showed another trailer on what happens during the Heroic Games before showing a timeskip five years after the Heroic Games, where Dagda is in ruins, but the Progneitor God, Sothis, called upon a soul named Eshmel to save Dagda, as Eshmel has two choices: they can face the Demon God on their own, or have the God of Time, Fortuna, help Eshmel go back in time to rescue the four heroes to help them in battle against the Demon God. My god, of course, there's a timeskip in this game, which is not surprising in Fire Emblem games, but the fact that the player can choose to save the heroes or not against the Demon God is quite cool. A lot of options for players, which is only a great thing. I'm curious to see how it'll play out.
They then revealed the Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave Dagdan Collection, which will include a 150-page artbook, 12 art cards, a Dagda Map, a steel book, and the game itself, as it'll also be released on the same day the game is released, which is on September 17, 2026, on Switch 2. My god, that Dagdan Collection is incredible, and I expect that collection to be sold out instantly. Good luck trying to get one, my god.
Finally, they announced that a few music tracks from Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave will be available now on Nintendo Music for people to listen to. Plus, Nintendo Today will have a Fire Emblem theme, and they'll announce new information about Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave on the app. Lastly, there'll be an Ask the Developer article on Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, which will be released on September 15, 2026. Man, I love that Nintendo is giving the spotlight to Fire Emblem here with their apps and so forth. I'm looking forward to the music of the game as well as the interview with Intelligent Systems about the game itself.
Overall, this was a great presentation from Nintendo. I was already hyped for this game when they first announced it, but after watching this presentation, I'm more hyped for this game than ever before, and I want it to be out now! I like how the game combines Fire Emblem: Three Houses' story paths, Fire Emblem Engage's gameplay, and Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia's dungeons into one, which could make this the best Fire Emblem game yet. The fact that the game lets the player experience all four hero stories in parallel without doing a new playthrough with a different route like Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a lifesaver. I really love the amount of advertising that Nintendo did for this game, and they did just enough where it doesn't feel like we got spoiled on the story of the game either, which is a great thing. September 17 can't come soon enough, and I can't wait to play this game once it comes out next month.
